A vanishing dream…! By Shiraz Paracha
The PTI is another name of Imran Khan. Without Imran the PTI is a gang of creepy leaders. It is Imran and only Imran around whom millions of idealist, energetic and well-intended but naive young people, who see the world in black & white, have gathered. These young people, particularly females, have faith in Imran. He is their ideal. They see in him a true leader who can give them a bright future and a country they will feel proud about.
Not all leaders can inspire and generate such emotions among people of a specific society at a specific time. Once Hitler, too, was popular among the German people when he had played on frustrations of the German nation. But Germany had to pay a heavy price for its fondness for Hitler’s passion and ideology.
Imran is not Hitler but he is the second Pakistani leader after Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, who has inspired millions. However, there are signs that Imran’s story is heading towards a tragic end. Nobody else but Imran Khan would be responsible for such an eventuality.
One feels sad to see a hope die and dream vanish bit by bit. Imarn khan created the PTI and he is damaging it. It pains me to see huge disappointment and anger that our youth may encounter if Imran didn't change his path of political suicide.
Imran had a chance to become a great reformer and social leader of Pakistan—A Messiah. He could change peoples’ lives due to his charisma and energy. He could be a role model in the fields of education, social change and sports.
Imran is not a very learned man, he is not a visionary; he is not even an intellectual. He doesn't read, he doesn't understand dynamics of politics and society, he is not a peoples’ man. He can talk about miseries of the weak and the poor but he has not experienced what poverty and powerlessness is. He can’t feel the pain of dispossession. He never resisted the powerful in the true sense. He didn't suffer at the hands of military dictators and doesn't understand what political struggle and philosophy means. There are imperfections in Imran’s personal life, which is full of contradictions.
Oddly enough the people of Pakistan have accepted Imran despite his shortcomings and weaknesses.
Most Pakistani heroes are fake or manufactured. Our true heroes and genuine leaders were killed in darkness. We are a barren land and in such a place generals like Hameed Gul and Shuja Pasha promoted Imran Khan as a political hero, which was another blunder of those generals.
Imran is a hero but his field is not politics. Yet he could play a key role in the progressive and positive transformation of the Pakistani society.
Pakistan’s ills and problems are mostly social and are result of our primitive, tribal and ultra conservative thinking and mindset. Unknowingly we are fighting against modernity and development. We want to reverse the wheel of history. Some of us are very powerful and they want us to go back to stone-age. A politician or political party can’t handle such issues because they have to live with social, cultural and religious myths and realities. Politicians can’t go against their voters’ wishes and life styles thus most politicians like to maintain the status quo and don’t question or address taboo issues.

On the other hand, a social reformer who enjoys the public’s trust but is not interested in election politics can ask difficult questions because he/she does not want to be a president or prime minister of the country but his aim is healing social ills.
Imran is a failed political leader and strategist. But he is a successful social activist/campaigner. If he did not enter into politics he could be extremely successful as social campaigner raising awareness about social causes such as poverty, healthcare and education at national and international forums. He could be Pakistan’s Goodwill Ambassador. Such a role would earn him more credibility. His influence and reach would be bigger than prime ministers. He would be respected and remembered by all political parties and people of different persuasions.
People love Imran because of his social work and achievements as a sports star. He enjoys public’s trust in those spheres and he could continue building on that and would attain a status where he could change lives by influencing opinions and perceptions.
Somewhere power players and power brokers misled him. They pushed Imran into a quagmire; he won’t come out unhurt or untainted.
Spymasters could use Imran for their agenda due to Imran’s lust for power. Perhaps Imran will be punished for ignoring the love and respect that has been showered on him by the Pakistani youth. He will pay the price for preferring glory over trust.
